Interview with Obama's White House Photographer
The man selected by Barack Obama to be the official White House photographer, Pete Souza, did a wonderful interview this morning on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition." Go here to listen to it.
Souza was offered the joy President-Elect Obama's incoming press secretary, Robert Gibbs. Souza will go to work already knowing his way around the White House: He served as White House photographer during the Reagan administration during the late 1980s.
Most recently, Souza has been teaching photojournalism at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication. He met Obama in 2005 while working for the Chicago Tribune. Souza covered the swearing in of the junior senator from Illinois, then went on to document Obama's first year in office and his travels to seven different countries. His pictures were collected in a best-selling book, "The Rise of Barack Obama." (The photo here is from that project.)--David Schonauer
