Chuck Close Photographs Brad Pitt for W

Picture 26

The February issue of W magazine currently features a surprising celebrity portrait on its cover; Chuck Close photographed Brad Pitt with a daguerreotype camera, known for its brutal ability to capture every fine detail of a subject, and in this case, a face. Close has experimented with the 19th century daguerreotype for years now, and the large format images of Pitt's face are in stunning detail—every pore and line is on display. The actor specifically requested the treatment, which we think is fitting considering his recent Oscar nomination for his work in the age-bending epic, Benjamin Button. Unfortunately, like most of Close's work, the magnificent, subtle details of these portraits just don't translate in small images online, so to get the full effect, you'll have to see it on newsstands.
