Women Photographers On the Web

Picture_3 I'm so glad I stumbled across Amy Elkins' blog post last week about a new online photo forum she has started with fellow photographer Cara Phillips, called Women In Photography. The premise and site are very simple: Every two weeks a new female photographer is showcased with a selection of images and her personal artist's statement. Cara and Amy have reached out to many photographers, emerging and established, and already have a great line-up in the works. The site launched yesterday with work by Elinor Carucci and I did a Q&A with both of the creators, which is up on PopPhoto.com. Hearing what these two talented women have to say about the site, and the growing role of women in the photo industry, gets me really excited...and not just for women photographers, but for photographers in general, who are more and more taking curating and distribution responsibilities into their own hands -- almost always with impressive results.
