Where to Go and What to See

Foveaappletonlores When I found out about the exhibition of 12 women photojournalists opening Saturday at Fovea Exhibitions in Beacon, New York, I thought it sounded like a great project (especially serving, as it does, as a kind of homage to Alexandra Boulat). And I didn't even know the half of it. If you aren't acquainted with Fovea already, you should be. The non-profit gallery was started by several working photo editors and specializes in photojournalism and media education for local schools. My interview with co-director Stephanie Heimann will be is available at PopPhoto.com soon.

A second humanitarian photojournalism project is also going up Saturday, at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. Eight Magnum photographers joined the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in 2007 to document the positive effects of free antiretroviral drugs being distributed in nine countries. After those efforts open at Corcoran, they will be shown in Mexico City, Paris, London, Berlin, and Rome.
