A New Portfolio by Penn, Age 90
The August issue of Vogue arrived at my house, and I did what I always do first—go the Jeffrey Steingarten story on food to what fabulous visual concoction Irving Penn had made to illustrate the piece. I was therefore amply rewarded when I found an entire Penn portfolio illustrating a number of articles. Here are some of the spreads. By the way, Mr. Penn turned 90 on June 16.
I feel like I should say more about this work, but really, what is left to say about Penn at this point? He is, as the magazine notes, our greatest living photographer. But I will add that the photo of Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth I is nothing less than epic.

not this work I think, but I was interested to read the other day of a show he had earlier this year (some were the most exquisite close-up wild flowers) printed with Epson Pigment inks and Crane Silver Rag paper, as well as bog standard Epson Enhanced Matte...
