Where to Go and What to See

Whitmanweb_2 Last Friday, over strong cream-less coffee, I sat down with American Photo's Editor at Large Jean-Jacques Naudet (also known as the former editor of French Photo) to discuss some recent shows that I regrettably missed. Highlights included the witty, if sometimes bitingly, humorous--Robert Whitman's pre-fame Prince prints, Jennifer Brommer's Local Color, and Justine Cooper's prescription medication advertising spoof, Havidol)--and the probingly evocative--Justine Kurland's naked mothers and children, Misty Keasler's Japanese "love hotels," and Terri Garland's images of Bibles and prayer books damaged during Hurricane Katrina. I started thinking then about all the great shows I never get a chance to see, and I haven't stopped thinking about it yet.

So I'd like to propose that this week the Where to Go column goes beyond the one-sided recommendations. If you get a chance to see a show, please leave your thoughts in the comments. If you don't, but have seen someone's work before, we'd love to hear about that too. And, of course, if I've forgotten anyone, please feel free to add them in your comment. Long live dialog!
