Where to Go and What to See

Fletcherstreetweb_1 If you're tired of the usual half-glass of trendy pink wine and stuffy hob-nobbing of traditional gallery openings, DUMBO is the place for you this Thursday. The latest in powerHouse Books' explosion of programming to fill its gigantic new space at 37 Main Street in Brooklyn, Thursday's Industry Shakedown is not only a release party for Martha Camarillo's book Fletcher Street, but also a debut for Wax Poetics Issue 21 and new albums by Black Milk and Chico Mann. Throw in a DJ set by Rich Medina, drinks courtesy of Brooklyn Brewery, and ... did I mention the horses? Fletcher Street documents a poor Philadelphia neighborhood where equestrianism binds the community—and powerHouse has brought in several of the community members, astride their trusty steeds, for the evening. But will the horses be upset by the DJ beats? And will the  hipsters be upset by the horse excrement? Either way, it's bound to be anything but the usual.
