London Mayor wants to Ban Skinny Models

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about why I think it would be wrong for politicians to weigh in on the issue of super-skinnny models. I wasn't over-reacting. London's Daily Mail reports that the city's mayor, Ken ("Red Ken") Livingston is considering ending funding for fashion shows unless size-zero models are banned. This is just ridiculous.

As I noted in my earlier blog, it's a dangerous idea to ban size-zero models because they might be bad role models for girls. If someone can say super-skinny models promote eating disorders among girls, why couldn't the case also be made that overweight people in pictures are bad role models for people who are obese? It's a crazy double-standard. Don't go there, Red Ken.
